7 Steps to Waterproofing or Rain forced Concrete Flat

Almost all developed countries like America, Singapore and other European countries uses concrete reinforced methods keep water away. The construction will have water pores or kind of capillary tracts. It depends on the strength and density; many methods were used by technicians. 1. Liquid Applied Membranes:

These are widely used in small scale areas. It is used in the form of liquid form which later allowed to change to water impermeable membrane.  Widely used is Bituminous based and polymeric based membranes. The main advantage of both these is it can be easily applied. The liquid membranes are have following advantages.

They are seamless, semi flexible, easy to apply, detail, maintain and repair. A careful and alert is needed at the time of installation process.  The proper curing of concrete has to be made. The thickness too has to made in a limited quantity.

2. Pre-Formed Sheet Membranes:

Polymer modified bitumen membrane is one among the widely used pre-formed membranes. They heat while the installation process attach to the respective areas by adhesives. The blended form of these polymer is stronger. This polymer is stronger and protest against the winds, temperature fluctuations, normal expansion and contraction in the building due to various factors. Another developed type Polyvinylchloride(PVC). The additional resins make it leave its hard properties and make it suitable for these applications. They also made to use in the application by heating process. The PVC is made by calendar or extrusion process.

    1. The installation of membrane is very important in the water proofing. Hence it has to be done in the roof edges in most cases. A minimum of 25-28 mm chamber should be provided to for a smooth and better installation of membrane.  This will not only help to proper installation of membrane. This will also help to reduce the bending stress without a fillet.

    2. Extend the Bitumen membrane up to 150 mm above the finishes root level. Make sure the bitumen membrane can also be used in the edges, upstands etc. Bitumen can prevent the water leakage. Hence it is widely used by experts to keep the water leaked away.

    3. When it comes to corners the bitumen should be neatly overlapped in the parapet walls. The vertical and joints should be sealed with bitumen to prevent water leaking from any corners.

    4. Rain water down pipe has to be cover with a small piece of membrane should be kept inside the pipe. The both top and bottom should be at least 50 mm roof surface. In some cases, the pipe penetration will be weak and horizontal membrane can’t do a bend in 90 degrees. Thus we use an additional cover of joint with membrane to keep away such problems. The rain drop is always being always covered by bitumen in horizontal direction.

    5. A special kind of PVC Coated strip is used in PVC Membrane. Before installation of PVC Coated strip first they cut a small groove on a carpet wall. After that L-shaped metal strip can be nailed on the wall. The joining is adopted by heat welding. The heat welding creates a perfect contact between them.

    6. Every single internal and external corners should be further reinforced with prefabrication. The corners were covered with prefabricated corner piece usually made from unreinforced membrane. Thus the membrane allows for higher flexibility and work ability.

    7. Always make sure you sue an extra piece of PVC membrane. It prevents the water leakage from both weak joints. The membrane can be kept in between both horizontal and vertical pipe penetrations.

Proper design fall is very important to keep the water from the roof to its drainage pits. Fails to maintain so will lead to various issues. Hence the above mentioned steps are put forward by experts and technicians who works in this field for many years. Now, a day’s developing countries like India is also started using these kind of modern construction techniques. Also the selection of membrane Is also an important factor to be considered.  As we all know it is completely exposed to sunlight all the times, fail in membranes leaves to errors in roofs and create stagnation water at the roof.  Many companies are there in market with their own kind of product names.

But, to get an effective result you can go with Micronsil 30C, an effective waterproofing chemical product. It is a hydrophobic admixture.  The inbuilt properties of admixtures keep the water away and hence reduces the leakage. It is used as membrane in water proofing application.
